Dance during the Renaissance was quite different from how one would think of dancing today. The biggest difference being that dancing was specifically for the rich and royalty, not for your everyday middle class or peasants. Knowing the complex dance steps was a sign that you were educated and well off.
Another distinguishing characteristic of dances during the Italian Renaissance was that all dances were VERY particular, and completely choreographed. Each type of dance had specific music and movements to go with it, and we will discuss that further later on.
